24h Du Mans: Qualifying Session 3

Both crews continued to work on a further refinement of the setup in a session dominated by accidents. The first qualifying session this evening, the third out of a total of four sessions, started at 19:00 in dry conditions. Just before the start a few showers caused the track to be wet but with the sun replacing the cloud and medium winds all cars went out on slicks.

In the #94 Speedy Racing car Iradj Alexander started the session while Alexei Vasiliev went out in the #85. After only six minutes a LMP1 went into the barriers and caused the first code red. It took the marshals about 25 minutes to clear the track and repair the guide rails before the cars went out again at 19:30. Iradj drove for about an hour before handing the car to Andrea Chiesa. The team made further modification to the car to solve an oversteer problem before Benjamin took over from fellow countryman Chiesa.

In the meanwhile Alexei Vasiliev switched with Ralf Kelleners after the first code red was lifted. Ralf work with the mechanics the last bits of setup work and after the session he said he was happy with the setup and feeling of the car. Just before 20:30 both cars returned to the pit. Benjamin Leuenberger took place In the #94 Speed Racing and went out while Ralf was already underway for a flying lap.

Just after 20:30 a second code red was given for another shunt of an LMP1. At 20:48 the organization decided that the session was finished as the marshals were still cleaning the track.

The next and last two-hour qualifying session is scheduled at 21:45. Conditions are excellent to improve times and no rain is expected.
